Q. When are games played?

A. All Softball divisions and Baseball divisions Double A through Juniors begin their season in the second week of April.  Most games are played on weekdays and usually have 1 to 2 games per week, with the exception of 6U Softball which plays on Sunday mornings.  These divisions wrap up their season between the last week of May and early June, depending on weather.

All other Baseball divisions begin their season at the end of April and will run through mid-June.  These divisions have one game per week typically on the weekend mornings, depending on weather and field availability.  Specifically, Rookies and Single A play on Saturdays and Wiffle Tee plays on Sundays.

Q. Will there be practices?

A. Most divisions/teams try to have one practice per week. After team selection and game schedules are created, your coach will inform you when and where your team practice will be. In some instances, joint team practices or divisional practices may be scheduled due to field availability.

Q. How do I know what division my child should/will be playing in?

A. NYBS uses the Little League Baseball age chart (link) for the Baseball divisions, which goes by your child's age as of August 31, 2025.

NYBS uses the USA Softball age chart (link) for the Softball divisions, which goes by your child's age as of August 31, 2024.

NYBS also offers spring evaluations for all registered athletes to help with team formation and to allow for consideration for children to play up a division.   All registered participants are strongly encouraged to attend spring evaluations.  See #7 for more information.

Q. What equipment does my child need?

A. Your child is required to have their own comfortable, age-appropriate baseball/softball glove and baseball/softball pants.  Softball players will also need an infield mask.

NYBS will supply a uniform jersey for all participants, and a hat for baseball.

Additionally, each coach is provided with access to batting helmets and bats for the team to share.

Cleats are not required but are recommended for the older-level divisions (please note metal spikes are not permitted until Juniors division).

Q. When does the season start?

A. Depending on the division and weather permitting/field conditions we plan to start the second week of April for most divisions. Younger baseball divisions will begin closer to the end of April.
